5/16 CSA Weekly Newsletter
Wild Child Farm Members,
The first CSA week is finally upon us! We are over the moon to share all of the hard work we have been doing here on the farm. Your shares are ready and we can’t wait to kickoff the season at this Friday’s pickup!
“Come with me into the woods where spring is advancing, as it does, no matter what, not being singular or particular, but one of the forever gifts, and certainly visible.”
-Mary Oliver
Vegetable Share
Spring greens are abundant and we’re excited to provide shares that are reflective of this beautiful season! Here are the items you will find in this week's bag along with some storage tips:
Bok Choy
Pry the stems apart and store in a zip-top bag in your refrigerator's vegetable drawer
Lettuce Heads
Wrap in a few paper towels and store in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator
Spinach
Wrap in a paper towel and place in a sealed storage container or bag in the crisper drawer of your fridge. If your spinach isn't in an airtight container, avoid storing it next to ethylene-producing fruits (such as bananas and apples).
Onion (provided by MASA)
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space out of direct sunlight
Cilantro
Fill a jar with about an inch of water. Place cilantro, stems down, in the water (like a bouquet of flowers). Place a reusable plastic or silicone bag over the leaves and secure the bag at the mouth of the jar with a rubber band. Store in the refrigerator.
Swiss Chard
Wrap the stalks in a slightly damp paper towel or cloth and place in an open plastic bag or perforated plastic bag in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator.
Microgreens
Place them in a resealable plastic bag or container with the lid on and store in the refrigerator
Kale
Wrap the leaves on a layer of clean paper towels, about 2-3 at a time, and store in the crisper drawer in fridge.
Arugula
Wrap in damp paper towels or a damp cloth, place it in a plastic bag or container and keep it in the refrigerator's crisper drawer.
Meat Share
Whole Pasture Raised Chicken
Pasture Raised Bratwurst, Pork Chops and Breakfast Sausage
Grass Fed Beef Burger Patties (Grama Grass and Livestock)
Grass Fed Stew Meat (Grama Grass and Livestock)
Egg Share
We like to practice what we preach and reducing waste is no exception! We’re reusing recycled egg cartons and are getting a little crafty with the half dozen share cartons. While not the “prettiest” presentation, we hope you’ll also appreciate this value we are embodying and make an effort to bring us your old cartons to reuse too!
Pickup Day Reminders
CSA pickups are located at Shining Mountain Waldorf School in the High School Parking lot. We will be set up under our white tent with lots of local goodies available for purchase from 12:30 to 6 PM. We’ll give you your share in a tote and mesh bags which should be returned clean each week. The address is:
1179 Union Ave
Boulder, CO 80304

Baby Animal Corner
We have welcomed many baby animals on the farm including a baby cow, new chicks, and a litter of 5 kittens. (3 kittens remain to adopt as outdoor/barn cats if you know of anyone interested) Follow us on Instagram @wildchildfarmco for more updates and some cute photos that are sure to make you smile!
Farm Events
Earlier this month, we had our first Wine and Weeding event, which brought us together with some friends and members to enjoy snacks and beverages and pull weeds together in community.
We processed our first round of pastured poultry together with farmers and friends from Elk Run Farm. Working in a community this way empowered 10 people who had not been a part of processing animals. Knowledge is power!
Join our Farm Tour & Meet the Team to visit the animals and learn about how we grow your food on June 3 from 1-3pm. Register yourself and the family HERE!
Thank you all so much for your involvement in our farm and supporting us as we regenerate the land. We hope you enjoyed this newsletter and what’s in your bag this week. We look forward to sharing more abundance as the season progresses. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any thoughts, questions, or feedback. We’re eager to connect!
Growing with care,
The Wild Child Farm Team
