7/4 Newsletter

Greetings!

Blooms, butterflies, rainbows, and blue skies. This week at the farm, while still bustling, we are enjoying some extra rest and taking time to reflect with gratitude as we reap the fruits of our labor. As things continue to heat up, we hope you are enjoying some extra rest, too. Can’t wait to share the abundance of this season with you this Friday!

Vegetable Share

We’re harvesting more variety this week as we welcome in summer. While some things might differ as we prepare to harvest later in the week, here are the items you might find in your next bag along with some storage tips:

  • Snap Peas

    • Refrigerate in a plastic bag or freeze by blanching in boiling water for 1 minute, followed by an ice bath. Drain and place them in a ziplock bag in the freezer.

  • Cucumbers

    • Store in the crisper drawer of fridge or to make it last even longer, wrap the whole cucumber in plastic wrap and then store it in an airtight container.

  • Parsley

    • Fill a jar with about an inch of water. Place parsley, stems down, in the water (like a bouquet of flowers). Store in the refrigerator.

  • Leeks

    • Without washing, store in the crisper drawer until ready for use.

  • Spinach & Baby Kale Mix

    • Transfer to a container, lay a paper towel or clean cloth napkin on top of the leaves, then close the lid and store it upside down in the fridge.

  • Mustard Greens

    • Store in airtight container or bag in the fridge, and lay a paper towel or clean cloth to absorb moisture.

  • Lettuce Heads

    • Store in the crisper drawer of your fridge. Option to wrap in a towel to absorb excess moisture.

  • Basil

    • Store in airtight container or trim stems of basil and store in a container of water, and place a plastic bag over the basil to extend life.

  • Chives

    • Roll Chives into damp paper towel and store in airtight container.
